Significant Words and Comments: Commentary on Revelation 21:19-20 continued (1 January 2008): Deuteronomy 27:12-13 state: “These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to humble the people, when ye are come over Jordan; Simeon [ambition], and Levi [spiritual knowledge], and Judah [unity with Yehuveh], and Issachar [wisdom], and Joseph [knowledge and lovingkindness], and Benjamin [sound judgment]: and these shall stand upon mount Ebal to enlighten; Reuben [balance], Gad [respect, fear], and Asher [communication], and Zebulun [understanding], Dan [perseverance], and Naphtali [self- direction].” Note: From the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Hebrew Old Testament, we have a clear identification of each Greek word which was translated from each Hebrew stone name. The correlation is an impeccable twelve-on-twelve match between the Hebrew words used in Exodus 28:17-20 and 39:10-13 and the Greek words in Revelation 21:19-20. However, when the Hebrew list of stones and the Greek list of stones are translated into English there is a wide disparity between these lists. It is only from the arrangement of the stones on the breastplate and in the foundations, that we can correlate the English translations. Therefore, beside each Greek-translated stone name listed by the explanations, the corresponding Hebrew-translated stone from the breast-pocket is listed. This link is crucial to examining the Torah texts which relate to each stone. With this explanation in place, lets examine each of the twelve stones in greater detail and with associated Scriptural insights: The first = jasper The second = sapphire The third = a chalcedony The fourth = an emerald The fifth = sardonyx The sixth = sardius The seventh = chrysolyte The eighth = beryl The ninth = a topaz The tenth = a chrysoprasus The eleventh = a jacinth The twelfth = an amethyst CHART of Twelve Stones: The configuration of these twelve stones on the breast-pocket (breastplate).
