Significant Words and Comments:
Commentary on Revelation 21:19-20a expansion (28 August 2008):
The Twelfth Foundation Stone
“The twelfth, an amethyst,” representing the twelfth commandment [“Thou shalt not covet . . . any thing that is thy neighbour’s.” Exodus 20:17], therefore identifying the amethyst [G0271] stone as representing balanced use of passion. The corresponding Hebrew-translated stone from the breastplate is jasper [H3471]. There appear to be no corresponding references in Torah. (28 August 2008)
This solidified life-structuring commandment stone corresponds with the tribe of Naphtali and the constellation Virgo. The Jacob’s and Moses’ prophecies regarding Naphtali are: “Naphtali is a hind let loose,” speaks of a strength released. That is, those who have learned the appropriate boundaries on their passions can fully release their strength and put their every energy into those enterprises which take their passions. Within the simple boundaries Yehuveh has set for their energies, there is limitless release. We are free to be as exuberant, enthusiastic, and impassioned as we want to be for every cause and enterprise of which we dream. Hind is from 'ayalah [H0355] from the same unused primary root which gives rise to 'ayil [H0352], properly meaning “strength; hence anything strong; specifically, a chief (politically); also a ram (from his strength); a pilaster (as a strong support); an oak or other strong tree.” “He giveth goodly words.” Both the counsel and encouragement of those who have rightly directed passion will uplift and strengthen everyone to higher pursuits. Under this influence, we will get our lives back! Let it come! “Of Naphtali he said, O Naphtali, satisfied with favour, and full with the blessing of Yehuveh.” Rightly directed passions will indeed bring us all the satisfaction and positive blessing we crave. What a wonderful life we will live! “Possess thou the west and the south.” Among other things, from the arrangement of the twelve tribes listed in Numbers 2, we know the west includes the qualities of family honor (Reuben), high regard for life (Simeon), and absolutely no adulteration (Gad). The south includes the qualities of no vanity (Ephraim), true Sabbath-keeping (Manasseh), and a six-day work regulation of our lives (Benjamin). All of these six aspects of our lives will be under the direction and control of our passion to serve Yehuveh! Genesis 49:21; Deuteronomy 33:23.
There are no direct Scriptural references to Virgo. The Sun is in Virgo from approximately 21 August to 20 September, depending on the year. During this time we must evaluate our energy flow and confirm our allegiance to keep our passions within Yehuveh’s stated boundaries. Within these limits, however, we can let our strengths and passions completely loose! We can become all we can be!
