Significant Words and Comments: Commentary on Revelation 21:18 (19 August 2008): “The building of the wall of it was of jasper,” which from the list of stones in Revelation 21:19, corresponds to Yehuveh’s first commandment, “Thou shalt have no other elohims before Me,” or “You must not put your self-protection and self-provision in My face.” This wall of secure life-structuring instruction, which is to completely shape our lives for prosperity and peace, can only be built if we make Yehuveh first, last, and only in our lives. All stones represent solidity and solidified wisdom, as discussed in notes on Revelation 4:3 and 17:4, and these twelve stones are the foundational solidified truths on which all other truth and wisdom is established and built. What a grand, yet exceedingly simple system of truth! “The city was pure gold,” that is, the entire structure of instruction which surrounds, protects, nurtures, and provides safe dwelling for Yehuveh’s people is comprised of His pure instruction. City, as a dwelling place for Yehuveh’s people, see notes on Revelation 11:13; gold, Yehuveh’s word and instruction, see notes on Revelation 2:1. Fifteen times in Revelation, golden is translated from the Greek entry chruseos [G5552, “to be made of gold”]; the three references in Revelation to gold itself are translated from the companion word chrusion [G5553, “gold”]: in Revelation 3:18 regarding buying gold from Yehuveh for our wealth, and twice here in Revelation 21:18, 21 in reference to His pure city and its streets. “Like unto clear glass,” that is, “of the purest transparent innocence.” Glass, from hualos [G5194], used only twice in Revelation 21:18, 21, refers to complete and utter transparency. The incredible clarity of Yehuveh’s instruction leaves no mystery, no confusion, no ambiguities. Everyone in Yehuveh’s restored kingdom, His holy city, know exactly what He has told them to do, and they joyfully, gladly do it! Regarding clear, as pure, clean, see Revelation 15:6.
