Significant Words and Comments: Commentary on Revelation 21:17 expansion (16 August 2008): Commandment or Structure #11: “Thou shalt not bear false witness.” Whether by spoken word or by action, we are not to present a false front in any manner. This commandment, more than all the others, calls for the closest consideration of our every thought and its expression. Rather than merely putting a bridle on our words and acts, we might well learn the lesson of entirely yielding them to Yehuveh rather than entertaining and expressing them. “The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious.” “A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.” “He that refraineth his lips is wise.” Exodus 20:16; Ecclesiastes 10:12; Proverbs 12:23; 10:19. Also: Proverbs 11:13; 13:16; 15:2; Ecclesiastes 10:3, 12-14. (16 August 2008) Detail #11:1: False witnesses devise deceitful lies and create confusion. “These six things doth Yehuveh hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.” “He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.” “A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.” “A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.” “A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.” These are solemn cautions we dare not ignore. When we are restored, we must stand before Yehuveh in the utmost purity of both word and action. “The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.” Proverbs 6:16-19; 12:17; 14:5; 25:18; 19:5; Zephaniah 3:13. Also: Exodus 23:1, 6, 7; Leviticus 19:11, 16; Deuteronomy 5:20; 19:15-21; 1 Samuel 22:8-19; 1 Kings 21:10-13; Psalms 15:3; 27:12; 35:11; 101:5-7; Proverbs 10:18; 11;13; 19:9; 21:28. Detail #11:2: Two witnesses must confirm evidence of wrong conduct. “One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.” “At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.” Thus even Yehuveh covers His revelations with two witnesses: “I will give power unto My two witnesses, and they shall prophesy.” Deuteronomy 19:15; 17:6; Revelation 11:3. Also: Numbers 11:26; 35:30. Detail #11:3: Every form of lying is a false witness to or against others. “Lying lips are abomination to Yehuveh: but they that deal truly are his delight.” “Deliver my soul, O Yehuveh, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.” Every false word or action is a lie which we must recognize, turn away from, and forever forsake. It is just as crucial that we refuse to listen to lies. [Consider how much advertising misrepresents the truth. Likewise, much of the media news twists or fractures truth and is therefore lying.] Proverbs 12:22; Psalms 120:2. Also: Leviticus 9:11; Deuteronomy 33:29; Judges 16:10, 13; Job 13:4; 24:25; Psalms 40:4; 58:3; Psalms 5:6; 31:18; 59:12; 62:4; 63:11; 101:5-7; 116:11; Proverbs 6:16, 17, 9; 10:18; 14:5, 25; 17:4, 7; 19:5, 9, 22; 29:12; 30:6, 8; Isaiah 9:15; 16:6; 28;15, 17; 44:25; 59:3-4; Jeremiah 9:3, 5; 14:14; 15:18; 16:19; 20:6; 23:14, 25-26, 32; 48:30; 50:36; Ezekiel 13:8-9, 19, 22; 22:28; 24:12; Daniel 11:27; Hosea 7:3, 13; 10:13; 11:12; Amos 2:4; Micah 6:12; Nahum 3:1; Habakkuk 2:18; Zephaniah 3:13; Zechariah 13:3; Revelation 2:2; 21:8; 22:15.
