Re-evaluation Translation: (Repeating) 11:13 At the same time there was a mighty heart-shaking, and all Yehuveh’s people were humbled, and the shaking completed a huge number of people: and all who remained feared Yehuveh and praised Him for His awesome goodness. |
Bible, KJV Translation: (Repeating) 11:13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven. |

Significant Words and Comments: Commentary on Revelation 11:13 continued (19 February 2008): In just such an impartial manner, Yehuveh is going to restore justice, righteousness, and peace to returning Israel: “I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant: And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against Me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am Yehuveh. As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith Yehuveh Elohim; . . . Pollute ye My holy name no more with your gifts, and with your idols. For in Mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith Yehuveh Elohim, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, serve Me: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things. I will accept you with your sweet savour, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you before the heathen. And ye shall know that I am Yehuveh, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers. And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and ye shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed. And ye shall know that I am Yehuveh when I have wrought with you for My name’s sake, not according to your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel.” According to Isaiah 6:11-13 and Amos 5:3, the world is to be decimated, reduced to one tenth of those now living, and all who remain belong to Yehuveh. Ezekiel 20:37-44. “Of the city fell . . .” The restored people (all of them) humbled themselves before Yehuveh, as stated above: “there ye shall remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and ye shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed.” City, from polis [G4172], is given by Thayer as “to dwell;” fell [pipto, G4098], as discussed in Revelation 8:10, is “to descend from a higher place to a lower.” Humbling the heart certainly does this: “Thou shalt remember all the way which Yehuveh thy Elohim led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep His commandments, or no.” “Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before Elohim, when thou heardest His words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before Me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before Me; I have even heard thee also, saith Yehuveh.” “Yehuveh, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: Thou wilt prepare their heart, Thou wilt cause Thine ear to hear.” “The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek Elohim.” “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” Deuteronomy 8:2; 2 Chronicles 34:27; Psalms 10:17; 69:32; Isaiah 57:15. “In the earthquake were slain of men,” “in the shaking, men were brought to completion, perfection.” “Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with Me: he that walketh in a perfect way, he shall serve Me.” “The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way.” See earthquake on Revelation 6:12; slain on Revelation 9:15. Psalms 101:6; Proverbs 11:5. “Seven thousand,” while it may indicate a specific count, certainly has symbolic significance in Torah: “Yet I have left Me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.” Because seven is the symbol of completion, and thousand the symbol of “myriads, an indefinitely large number” [Revelation 9:16], this may be as accurate in speaking of “a huge multitude brought to completion,” which harmonizes with uplifting the remnant. 2 Kings 24:16 may be using the same symbolism: “All the men of might, even seven thousand, and craftsmen and smiths a thousand, all that were strong and apt for war, even them the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.” 1 Kings 19:18 [Romans 11:4-5].
