Revelation 3, Page 12 | |||||
Re-evaluation Translation: 3:18 I advise that you exchange your inherited lies for My well-proven wisdom, that you may be truly enriched; and surround yourself in purity, that you may be secure, and that the shame of your ignorance cannot be seen; and smother your understanding with adherence to My instruction, that you may truly understand. |
Bible, KJV Translation: 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. |

Significant Words and Comments: Commentary on Revelation 3:18 (29 December 2007): “Counsel” is from a Greek word [entry G4823] meaning “to advise, consult, recommend.” This stands in direct contrast to “command.” Our response to Yehuveh in these matters must be of personal choice, not something we are commanded to do. Yehuveh stands holding out all His wisdom and beauty to us, but we must individually determine whether we value it and will embrace it. “Buy of Me,” is clearly an exchange of something you now have for something you desire. We are to trade human wisdom and the “vanity” and “lies” we have inherited for the awesome wisdom and truth Yehuveh offers us. Jeremiah 16:19. “Come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine [knowledge] and milk [simply-read Scripture] without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto Me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Incline your ear, and come unto Me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you.” Isaiah 55:1. “Gold tried in the fire,” is a direct reflection on Proverbs 16:16, “How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!” Yehuveh’s wisdom is His most valuable commodity, His true gold! As we absorb this wisdom, we become equally valuable: “He knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” “I will bring the third part through the fire, . . . and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on My name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is My people: and they shall say, Yehuveh is my Elohim.” Job 23:10; Zechariah 13:9. The fire which refines wisdom in us is our Yehuveh-engineered life experiences, especially those which challenge us: “Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.” Isaiah 48:10. “That thou mayest be rich,” with the only riches which have eternal value, Yehuveh’s riches: “O Yehuveh, how manifold are Thy works! in wisdom hast Thou made them all: the earth is full of Thy riches.” Psalms 104:24.
