Revelation 1, Page 6 | ||||||
Re-evaluation Translation: 1:7 Behold, He comes with obscuring [our sinful past]; and everyone will know that He is Yehuveh, and even those who opposed Him: and all societies of the earth shall wail because of Him. Even so, let it be so. 1:8 I am aleph and tau, the beginning and the ending, says Yehuveh, who has always existed and always will, the Almighty. |

Bible, KJV Translation: 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. |

Significant Words and Comments: Commentary on Revelation 1:7 (23 November 2007): The phrase, “He cometh with clouds,” has been a significant aspect of the second advent teaching in Christianity. However, it is quite solidly an Old Testament concept tied to Yehuveh Himself: “He made darkness His secret place; His pavilion round about Him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.” “Clouds and darkness are round about Him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of His throne.” “Who maketh the clouds His chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind.” Psalms 18:11; 97:2; 104:3. “Every eye shall see him,” summarizes the more than fifty times Ezekiel describes situations which will result in people coming to know Yehuveh. Before the drama ends, something will impact everyone, and they “shall all know” Him. But most importantly, “the house of Israel shall know that I am Yehuveh their Elohim from that day and forward.” Jeremiah 31:24; Ezekiel 39:22. Because Christians believe in a crucified saviour, Christian translators assume “pierced him” refers to crucifixion. However, Zechariah 12:10 speaks only of the house of David being pierced, using the primary verb daqar [H1856] “to stab, to starve, to revile, to wound.” “They shall look upon him [David’s line] whom they have pierced. . . .” is as accurate to the original Hebrew if it is translated, “They shall look upon them [any of David’s descendents] whom they have reviled,” and restore the rightful kingship to David. Zechariah 12:10-11 goes on to describe this mourning. “All kindreds of the earth shall wail because of” their rejection of Yehuveh, grieving for their wrongs toward Him. They also wail because of His rejection of them and the losses they bear. “For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black; because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.” “Thus saith Yehuveh; Behold, . . . all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.” Jeremiah 4:28; 47:2. Commentary on Revelation 1:8 (24 November 2007): Following even [yea, amen], the phrase “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending” adds Israel to the mourning, for reasons explained in the notes on Revelation 1:17. “Saith Yehuveh,” applies to the entire passage from Revelation 1:4. For discussion of the phrase “which is, and which was, and which is to come,” see notes on Revelation 11:17 and Revelation 1:4. Almighty: “Yehuveh appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty Elohim.” Genesis 17:1 [Genesis 35:11; Exodus 6:3; Psalms 91:1].
