Battle is from qerab [H7128], meaning “hostile encounter,” and is a distinctly different Hebrew word from milchamah [H4421, encounter, exchange] which is translated battle in Zechariah 14:2. Qerab clearly describes conflict and confrontation, but Psalms 55:18 shows that qerab can be a spiritual conflict, not merely a physical one: “He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me.” At the time all nations are gathered to Jerusalem for instruction, every error in belief and tradition is confronted and every individual and every nation must battle against his or its cherished deceptions and embrace Yehuveh’s eternal truth. Qerab is used only here in Zechariah, and seven other times in Torah.
