Yehuveh’s Eighth Sign in the Heavens: Commentary on Zechariah 5:1-11 (8 December 2008):

Significant Words and Comments:

Significant Words: 5:8 (8 December 2008):

Said [H0559] is discussed in notes on Zechariah 1:1.

This [H2063] is discussed in notes on Zechariah 5:3.

Wickedness, used only here in Zechariah, is from rish`ah [H7564], meaning “wrong, especially moral wrong,” but used in the powerful sense of absolute rebellion and abandonment to do wrong. Thus Yehuveh caused Israel: “Speak not thou in thine heart, after that Yehuveh thy Elohim hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness Yehuveh hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations Yehuveh doth drive them out from before thee. Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations Yehuveh thy Elohim doth drive them out from before thee, and that He may perform the word which Yehuveh sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” Deuteronomy 9:4-5.

Cast is from the primary root verb shalak [H7993], “to throw out, down, or away,” and is used only four times in Zechariah [5:8 (twice); 11:13 (twice)].

Into [H0413] is discussed in notes on Zechariah 1:1.

Midst [H8432] is discussed in notes on Zechariah 2:4.

Ephah [H0374] is discussed in notes on Zechariah 5:6.

Weight [H0068] is discussed in notes on Zechariah 3:9.

Lead [H5777] is discussed in notes on Zechariah 5:7.

Mouth is from peh [H6310], meaning “mouth; edge, side,” the open end of the cylinder. Peh is used only five times in Zechariah [5:8, 9; 9:7; 13:8; 14:12].
