Commentary on Zechariah 4:1 (30 November 2008): In Zechariah 4:1, Zechariah is reawakened out of sleep to see “seven lamps,” indicating that Zechariah 4 takes place later in the same night as the Astronomical signs of Zechariah 3, the evening the prophet has seen Jupiter between Scorpio and Sagitarius, namely the New Moon of the Fourth Month, 16 June 2007. Hours later, the familiar constellation Orion, notable for its seven prominent stars, is in the midheavens.
If you examine Zechariah 4:2 word by word, you have some intriguing insights into the Hebrew thought. The Hebrew word translated gold can also be translated clear sky; likewise, bowl can be translated globe or celestial sphere; and candlestick in Hebrew is simply yoked lamps. Bringing these translational alternatives into Zechariah 4:2 results in quite a different picture: “I looked and saw stars yoked together in the celestial sphere of the clear sky, seven lamps pouring out seven lights.”
On the night that Zechariah sees both signs, he is assured that Yehuveh will cleanse the newly rising leadership and people, “Not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit, saith Yehuveh of hosts.”
In Yehuveh’s Spirit, we are to level mountains and raise up His temple. In particular, the two anointed ones [in Scriptures, only two groups are ever anointed], the “kings and priests” of Revelation 1:6 are raised up at this time to take Yehuveh’s instructions to all nations.
