Commentary on
Ezekiel 2:1-5

The Prophet’s Call

2:1  And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.
2:2  And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.
2:3  And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day.
2:4  For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Yehuveh Elohim.
2:5  And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.

Commentary on 2:2
[16 August 2007]: Scripture makes it quite clear that Yehuveh’s spirit is given to us as we receive His words and treasure His statutes. Proverbs 1:23 says, “Turn you at My reproof: behold, I will pour out My spirit unto you, I will make known My words unto you.” Ezekiel 36:27 adds, “I will put My spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and ye shall keep My judgments, and do them.”

Commentary on 2:3-5 [17 August 2007]: To understand Ezekiel’s assignment in our time, we must again know who Israel is. Ezekiel is sent to us. He is sent to speak to the nation of Israel who preferred Ben-Gurion’s leadership in “the paths of Egypt and Babylon” to Weizmann’s counsel to let Jerusalem be redeemed by righteous judgement and by the power and purposes of Yehuveh. In Ezekiel 24, dated the Six Day War, [nineteen years after the pivotal Twenty-second Zionist Congress of December 1946 which took place more than a year before the nation of Israel was declared], Yehuveh already called them “the rebellious house.” Yet, despite their rebellion, the prophet has but one assignment: “thou shalt speak My words unto them.” His fearless and open presentation of Yehuveh’s words is the clear evidence that he is Yehuveh’s prophet, spokesman. Ezekiel 24:3; 2:7.
