|Daniel: Significant Events in
the Six Years of Returning (Darius)
|Daniel 11:41, Page 4|
(Repeating) Daniel 11:41 And coming into the swollen land [recently filled by the driven migration of Daniel 11:20], he will make many tremble; but these break alliance from him: Edom and Moab and the heads of the sons of Ammon [the peoples which comprise Jordan’s population].
Bible, KJV Translation:
(Repeating) Daniel 11:41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.
Significant Words and Comments:
Signifiicant Words in Daniel 11:41 continued (11 November 2007):
Moab is from Mow’ab [H4124], literally meaning “from (her [the mother’s]) father; Moab, an incestuous son of Lot through the incestuous actions of his older daughter, Genesis 19:37; also his territory and descendents.” At present the descendents of Moab predominantly occupy the central region of the nation of Jordan.
This is the only use of Mow’ab in Daniel 11-12.
Chief or heads, used only here in Daniel 11-12, is from re’shiyth [H7225/H7218], “the first in place, time, order or rank (specifically a firstfruit).”
Children, sons, is from ben [H1121/H1129] meaning “a son, grandson, subject, nation, quality, or condition of building something up,” as discussed in notes on Daniel 11:10.
Ammon is from `Ammown [H5983/H5971/H6004], meaning “tribal; that is, literally, inbred; Ammon, a son of Lot through the incestuous actions of his younger daughter, Genesis 19:38; also his posterity and their country.” The city of Amman, Jordan, and the northern portion of that country are occupied by the descendents of this line.
This is the only use of `Ammown in Daniel 11-12.
