Significant Words and Comments: Commentary on Daniel 11:8 (3 November 2007): The word arrangement of this verse in The Interlinear Bible [“And also their provisions, with their liquids, with vessels treasured of silver and gold confiscate, bringing double vexation, and they continue standing against the Russian-Chinese coalition leader.”] is significantly different from the rendering in the King James Version [“And shall also carry captives into Egypt their gods, with their princes, and with their precious vessels of silver and of gold; and he shall continue more years than the king of the north.”]. As discussed with the examination of each word, the KJV reading hardly resembles the original Hebrew intent in this verse. Signifiicant Words in Daniel 11:8 (3 November 2007): Also is from gam [from James Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary entry H1571] meaning “assemblage; used only as an adverb, also, even, yea, though; often repeated as correlation, both . . . and . . . .” Gam is used but twice Daniel 11-12, in Daniel 11:8 and 11:22. Gods, more correctly elohims, is from ’elohiym [H0430/H0433/H0410] meaning “gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used with the definite article (the) to speak of Yehuveh; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates.” Though most people have a vague concept of who or what god is, this word elohim is quite unknown. Elohim is simply the Hebrew plural form for el, generally translated strength, the equivalent of our speaking of character qualities. However, each el is also referred to as a spirit and Scripture speaks of there being “seven spirits of God,” that is, “seven els/strengths of Elohim” “which are before His throne.” In the Qabbalah there are five additional els which comprise the throne, making a total of twelve. Without getting into the full explanation here, these twelve qualities or strengths are: (1) unity with Yehuveh [power do make a decision], (2) wisdom, (3) understanding, (4) knowledge, (5) mercy/lovingkindness, (6) sound judgment, (7) balance, (8) ambition, (9) respect/reverence, (10) persistance/stability, (11) communication, and (12) self-direction. Revelation 4:5; 1:4. The first commandment in Exodus 20:3 is simply, “You shall put no other elohim in My face.” To obey this commandment we must never put our own human wisdom, human understanding, human mercy or human justice above His word! We dare not put our opinions in His face! If He has instructed us in life choices, we must value His wisdom and His love above our own desires! ’Elohiym is used but three times in Daniel 11:8, 32, 37. In its simplest form, Elohim represents the qualities of Yehuveh’s character which give us wisdom and understanding, instruct us, provide for us, protect us, and love us. If He is our Elohim, then we look to Him for our every need and every desire. “Therefore turn thou to thy Elohim: keep mercy and judgment and wait on thy Elohim continually.” “O Yehuveh, Thou art my Elohim; I will exalt Thee, I will praise Thy name; for Thou hast done wonderful things; Thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.” Hosea 12:6; Isaiah 25:1.
