Significant Words and Comments:

Commentary on Daniel 11:1 (1 November 2007):  Daniel 11:1 serves to establish the time and the origin, nationality, and characteristics of one of the primary players in the prophecy unfolded throughout Daniel 11.
The time is clearly stated to be
“the first year of Darius,” identified from Daniel 9 and astronomical signs throughout the book of Zechariah as the first Year of Returning (Darius), the solar-lunar year from 10 April 2005 to 29 March 2006.
The noteworthy player in this prophecy is identified as coming from Iran, and as being of the Median nationality which occupies and rules Iran. Further, this player is stated to be obstinate and determined. Only one current figure satisfies these parameters, the Iranian leader,
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who assumed office on 6 August 2005. He has indeed been obstinate, determined, fearless, and vehement!
        Having anchored the prophecy of
Daniel 11 in our time, we must study the remainder of this chapter with careful consistency. The events herein foretold are indeed written for us, for right now.
        This
first Year of Returning (Darius), established a timeframe within which we were to anticipate the rise of an Iranian leader. In harmony with this prophecy, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was elected the sixth president of the Islamic Republic of Iran in what outside observers were told was an undisputed election. [Closer assessment by astute countrymen indicates that his election was everything but free and fair.] He immediately stood up against the western nations and the United Nations, stating that Iran would continue their development of nuclear technology and would not submit to the demands of usurped western authority.

Signifiicant Words in Daniel 11:1 (1 November 2007):

I, which in this context may more correctly be translated which, is stated to be from ’aniy [from James Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary entry H0589, from the root verb H0595], a Hebrew word used to describe ones self. Thus ’aniy is translated “which” (Genesis 18:14: “I . . . which am old?”), “who” (Exodus 6:12: “Pharaoh, who am of uncircumcised lips . . . .”), “myself” (2 Samuel 18:2; Ecclesiastes 2:14, Jeremiah 21:15), and “mine” (Proverbs 23:15).
However, the letters of this word are just as legitimately from
’an [H0575], meaning “now, where, wither.” While Daniel, as the writer, may have been referring to himself, it is more appropriate that the sentence simply read, now in the first Year of Returning (Darius).”
If, however, we believe Daniel is speaking of himself, his name means “judge of
Elohim,” which, as discussed in notes on Revelation 6:10, describes one who shows others where their lives are not in harmony with Yehuveh. In complete agreement with similar personal references in Revelation, Daniel therefore speaks as representative of all of Yehuveh’s anointed instructors for this time. Thus, if this is a personal reference, it immediately identifies this message as being presented for and by these anointed spokesmen in our time. ’Aniy is used only here in Daniel 11-12.
