89:59 And He called seventy shepherds, and cast those sheep to them that they might pasture them, and He spake to the shepherds and their companions: “Let each individual of you pasture the sheep henceforward, and everything that I shall command you that do ye. 89:60 And I will deliver them over unto you duly numbered, and tell you which of them are to be destroyed—and them destroy ye.” And He gave over unto them those sheep. |

89:59-60 From the split of the unified Hebrew nation into two nations—Israel and Judah—seventy Davidic-line kings continued the apostasies and national abuses set in motion by Solomon himself. Of the first of these seventy, Solomon’s son Rehoboam, his declared attitude toward the people under his care was openly abusive: “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.” Of him the Scriptures state: “And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of Yehuveh, and all Israel with him.” Tragically, though there were a few kings who sought to return to the ways of David in faithfully serving Yehuveh, even they only made partial returns. Rehoboam’s apostasy followed down the royal lineage for the next sixty-nine kings. 2 Chronicles 10:14; 12:1. Raymond Capt, in his 96-page paperback, Jacob’s Pillar, tracing David’s lineage through Zedekiah’s daughters, provides the names of these seventy shepherds (Davidic-line kings) in the following historical list: |
