From the Death of Noah to the Exodus 89:10 And they began to bring forth beasts of the field and birds, so that there arose different genera: lions, tigers, wolves, dogs, hyenas, wild boars, foxes, squirrels, swine, falcons, vultures, kites, eagles, and ravens; and among them was born a white bull. |

89:10 In line with the allegorical nature of this history, these beasts symbolize people groups, eventually recognized as nations, both ancient and modern. 15 are here listed. Some of these have been clearly defined for us by context or statement in either Enoch or Scriptures: Lions: Babylonians (Iraqis) [See Daniel 7:4, 17; 2:36-38.] Tigers: This one is not clearly specified. Probably Assyria, though the Eagle is also a symbol of Assyria. Enoch 89:66 mentions the lions and tigers together in the destruction of Jerusalem, and the Assyrians attacked the city when they were in power, then were followed by the Babylonians.] Possibly the symbol is the same Hebrew word elsewhere translated leopard, which may be either Ethiopia [Jeremiah 13:23.] or ancient Greece [Daniel 7:6.] Wolves: Egyptians [Enoch 89:13.] Dogs: Philistines (Palestinians) [Enoch 89:13.] “For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.” “His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.” Psalms 22:16; Isaiah 56:10. Hyenas [Bears in other translations]: Persians [Daniel 7:5, 17; 2:39.] Wild boars: Edomites, including the Amalekites and the Middianites (Jordanians) [Enoch 89:12.] Foxes: The Moabites and Ammonites, who much of the time affiliated with the Edomites and Ishmaelites, also descendents of Abraham through Hagar and Keturah rather than Sarah [Genesis 25:1-2; Enoch 89:42 and Judges 6 and 7]: also Israel’s prophets [Ezekiel 13:4]; possibly the Edomite mixed races, [Luke 13:32.] Squirrels (rabbits, in other translations): This one is not clearly specified. Probably of the descendents of Ham. Swine: This one is not clearly specified. Similar in Scriptures to the wild boars, likely one or all of the Canaanite nations mentioned in Deuteronomy 7:1 which Israel was to overthrow: “the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites,” descendents of Ham and Canaan. [In Psalms 80:13 the Hebrew word for swine is there translated boar. “The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.”] Also, Asses: Ishmaelites [Enoch 89:11, 13.] Regarding the birds, Leviticus 11:13-15 list all the same birds as here, in practically the same order: “And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray, and the vulture, and the kite after his kind; every raven after his kind.” These people groups are often mobile, loosely flighty, and truly tend to be birds of prey. Falcons: This one is not clearly specified. Likely the Turkish peoples. Vultures: This one is not clearly specified. Likely the Syrians. Kites: This one is not clearly specified. Likely the Lebanese. Eagles: Assyrian [currently Germany, and segments of the U.S. and Mexico, based on symbology and heraldry.] Ravens: Arabian peoples [1 Kings 17:4-6, the Hebrew root for Raven is ‘arab, meaning dusky or arid.] Gael Bataman Originally Written: 15 September 2006 Latest Update: 10 December 2011 Return to Zadok Home Continue . . .
