Commentary on the
Book of Enoch, Chapter 18:2.

Text

18:2  And I saw the corner-stone of the earth: I saw the four winds which bear the earth and
          the firmament of heaven.
Commentary

18:2 What is “the corner-stone of the earth”? In Scriptures, this term cornerstone is translated from the Hebrew entry H6438: pinnah, “an angle; a pinnacle; a chieftain,” which comes from entry H6434: pen, “an angle (of a street or wall).” Twenty-three of the twenty-nine uses of this word are simply as corner, as in Exodus 27:2, “And thou shalt make the horns of it [the altar] upon the four corners thereof.” In Judges 20:2 and 1 Samuel 14:38, this word refers to “the chief of all the people.” In 2 Chronicles 26:15 this word is translated “bulwarks,” and in Zephaniah 1:16 and 3:6 as “towers,” indicating defense or watch-posts to protect the city, rather than merely positional corners.
Believing the earth to be spherical, presenting it as having physical corners is unlikely, but having devense positions is quite tenable.
The Book of Jubilees, in 4:26, indicates that Yehuveh has four places on the earth: the garden of Eden, and the Mount of the East, and . . . Mount Sinai, and Mount Zion (which) will be sanctified in the new creation for a sanctification of the earth: through it the earth will be sanctified from all its sin and its uncleanness to the generations of eternity.” At this time, the exact location of the first three are not clearly known to us, as the actual location of Sinai is still a matter of speculation, but “the hill of Zion,” Jerusalem, is identifiable. If these are the four corner-stones of earth, we have a definition for the items in this verse, even if we lack a clear knowledge of their locations.
        What are
“the four spirits which bear the earth and the firmament of heaven”? Torah Scriptures present four specific references to the four winds, and additional comments on certain individual winds which would appear to be components of these four.
        First, consider these four verses:

Job 38:6.          “Who laid the corner stone thereof [of the earth]?”

                Psalms 118:22.
“The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the
                                        corner.”

                Isaiah 28:16.
“Thus saith Yehuveh Elohim, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone,
a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation.”

                Jeremiah 51:26.
“And they shall not take of thee [Babylon] a stone for a corner, nor a stone
for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith Yehuveh.”
