Text |

15:8 And now, the giants, who are produced from the spirits and flesh, shall be called evil spirits upon the earth, and on the earth shall be their dwelling. 15:9 Evil spirits have proceeded from their bodies; because they are born from men and from the holy Watchers is their beginning and primal origin; they shall be evil spirits on earth, and evil spirits shall they be called. 15:10 [As for the spirits of heaven, in heaven shall be their dwelling, but as for the spirits of the earth which were born upon the earth, on earth shall be their dwelling.] 15:11 And the spirits of the giants afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle, and work destruction on the earth, and cause trouble: they take no food, but nevertheless hunger and thirst, and cause offences. 15:12 And these spirits shall rise up against the children of men and against the women, because they have proceeded from them. |

15:8-12 This explanation of evil spirits is a powerful insight. There are more than a dozen Torah references to spirits, usually there called familiar spirits. Yehuveh consistently separates His people from these beings: “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am Yehuveh your Elohim.” Leviticus 19:31. [Also: Leviticus 19:26; 20:6-7, 27; Exodus 22:18; Deuteronomy 18:10-14; 1 Samuel 28:3, 7-9; 2 Kings 17:17; 2 Kings 21:6; 1 Chronicles 10:13; 2 Chronicles 33:6; Isaiah 8:19; 29:4; 47:13; Revelation 21:8.] Enoch 21:1-10 says the Watchers which fathered these giants-turned-evil-spirits were removed from contact with men and are confined in a horrible abyss forever, but Enoch 19:1 says they would be confined there only until the final great judgment and then destroyed. However, these Watcher-offspring, these evil-spirit beings, though slaughtered, remain able to influence humanity [Enoch 16:1]. How this works is not explained.
