Commentary on the Book of Enoch, Chapter 9:5-11. |

9:5 Thou hast made all things, and power over all things hast Thou: and all things are naked and open to Thy sight, and all things Thou seest, and nothing can hide itself from Thee. 9:6. Thou seest what Azâzęl hath done, who hath taught all unrighteousness on earth and revealed the eternal secrets which were in heaven, which men were striving to learn: 9:7 And Sęmjâzâ, to whom Thou hast given authority to bear rule over his associates. 9:8 And they have gone to the daughters of men upon the earth, and have slept with the women, and have defiled themselves, and revealed to them all kinds of sins. 9:9 And the women have borne giants, and the whole earth has thereby been filled with blood and unrighteousness. 9:10 And now, behold, the souls of those who have died are crying and making their suit to the gates of heaven, and their lamentations have ascended: and cannot cease because of the lawless deeds which are wrought on the earth. 9:11 And Thou knowest all things before they come to pass, and Thou seest these things and Thou dost suffer them, and Thou dost not say to us what we are to do to them in regard to these.’ |

9:5-11 [31 December 2007] It is exceedingly clear that nothing that takes place in this world, nor indeed in the entire universe, is outside of Yehuveh’s knowledge and control. He sees all. He governs all. “The eyes of Yehuveh are upon the righteous, and His ears are open unto their cry.” “Behold, the eye of Yehuveh is upon them that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy.” “He ruleth by His power for ever; His eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.” Psalms 34:15; 33:18; 66:7. 9:10 Do not the words, “the souls of those who have died are crying and making their suit to the gates of heaven,” imply the existence of the soul beyond death? Does this statement indicate that those who have physically died on this earth yet have some existence sufficient to allow them to cry out to Yehuveh? How can this be reconciled the statements in Ecclesiastes 9:5 that “the dead know not any thing”? Or is this simply a statement similar to that made in Genesis 4:10, [“the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto Me from the ground.”] indicating that Yehuveh knows all that is done on earth, as stated in verses 5 and 11 above?
