Commentary on the
Book of Enoch, Chapter 8:1-4.

Text

8:1  And Azâzêl taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and
made known to them the metals and the art of working them, and bracelets, and
ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of
costly stones, and all coloring tinctures.
8:2  And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they were led
astray, and became corrupt in all their ways.
8:3  Sêmjâzâ taught enchantments, and root-cuttings, Armârôs the resolving of enchantments,
Barâqîjâl astrology, Kôkabêl the constellations, Êzêqêêl the knowledge of the clouds,
Araqiel the signs of the earth, Shamsiêl the signs of the sun, and Sariêl the course
          of the moon.
8:4  And as men perished, they cried, and their cry went up to heaven. . . .
Commentary

8:1 The song lyric, “Ain’t goin’a study war no more,” ties back to the fact that men were taught to slaughter one another. Making and using weapons, and all aspects of warfare, are learned behaviours which will and must be unlearned in the kingdom to come. “Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.” Isaiah 2:4; Micah 4:3. [Also see: Psalms 46:9; Isaiah 11:9; and Hosea 2:18.]
         The phrase,
“the use of antimony,” is exceedingly insightful for this is the chemical which enables electronics and storage batteries. Far from living in an advanced age now, we doubtless do not yet know all that was known to the long-lived and angel-taught ancients! Technology now is doubtless primitive by comparrison!

8:2   Is it not intriguing that tied into the acquisition of weaponry is metalworking, jewelry, and cosmetics. With these understandings and others came abandonment of Yehuveh Elohim, fornication, and corruption.

8:3 The use of enchantments, root-cuttings (knowledge of mind- and body-altering drugs), astrology, and signs are all introduced to men by these fallen angels. This is not to contradict that there is and must be a right use of the knowledge of plants (medicinal herbology) and a right knowledge of astrology and astronomical signs, for David, Solomon, Ezekiel, and Daniel were all well-versed in these sciences.
