Seven Keys to Open Prophecy

“Blessed is he that readeth,
and they that hear the words of this prophecy,
and keep those things which are written therein:
for the time is at hand.”
Revelation 1:3.

“I
’ll be by to pick you up at 4:30 a.m. That will give us an early start and we will be into the next state before dawn. Anything I can pick up for you at the grocery store tonight? Drinks, snacks for the trip, an A on the paper you’re writing?” Jerry teased, then paused for me to respond. I thought a moment
and shook my head. “Great, see you early!”
This would be fun. Four of us were driving from our college in northeastern Washington to Helena, Montana, to participate in a very special wedding. Jerry was one of the groomsmen and Melissa was maid of honor. I was along just because I had also been invited to the wedding! And Rob, Rob was coming just because! He and Jerry had been best of friends since early childhood and spent a great deal of their free time hiking, mountain-climbing, caving, or biking together. There wasn’t much of the great northwest they hadn’t explored together sometime over the years. Of course Rob would be along on this trip.
This adventure was well-planned and I already knew the four of us would enjoy far more than just attending this special wedding. Jerry and Rob planned to stop at
Yellowstone and show Melissa and me the familiar “popular sights,” since neither of us had been to this National Park before. But that was not enough. They wanted to take us on a short hike into the back country, as Jerry said, “to show you OUR country.” Jerry and Rob had hiked quite extensively in the park, and the privilege of sharing some of its beauty with Melissa and me “fired” them both with intense enthusiasm.
Jerry and Rob had been planning the trip for more than two months. When they found out Melissa would be in the wedding and that I wanted to go as well, they asked if we wanted to ride with them and make it into an adventure for all of us! I had never done anything like this and had plenty of questions. What clothing did I need to bring? Did I need better hiking boots? Where would we stay in the Park? What about a sleeping bag and tent? What food did I need to bring?
My innocence amuse both Jerry and Rob. “We’ve got you covered,” seemed to be their stock answer! They had tents and extra sleeping bags, all the needed camping gear! They had already stocked up on food enough to make the trip twice over! “My sister’s boots will fit you and she’s glad to let you use them. And she even sent along two extra pair of thick socks,” Rob had assured me. “Just relax. We’ll have a great time!”
Jerry and Rob had laid out several maps on a table in the cafeteria late one afternoon just before supper and explained the entire itinerary to Melissa and me. We were making a lengthy trip over a single long week-end and they had it planned almost to the minute! We would leave very early on Friday morning, be into Idaho before breakfast and spend most of the day driving up the Clearwater River and over Lolo Pass. Over the years Jerry and Rob had enjoyed several months on extensive hikes in this area and has so many places they wanted to show Melissa and me. Even with all their planned detours we expected be in Helena, Montana, by nightfall. “Bring lots of layers,” Jerry advised us, “this is still pretty early in the season to be hiking through these higher altitudes and you’ll need to be able to adjust your body-temperature easily.”
