Section 5: Yehuveh’s Time System, Article 10

Day of Restarting (Atonement)

“On the tenth day of this seventh month
there shall be a day of atonement:
it shall be an holy convocation unto you;
and ye shall afflict your souls,
and offer an offering made by fire unto
Yehuveh.”
Leviticus 23:27.

“D
id you make Resolutions this year?” Pat asked. Trina shook her head without looking up.
        “Nope. Never do.”
“Why not?” Pat stared at her new roommate. This was going to require some discussion.
Everyone in her own family always made Resolutions. Of course they never kept them, but so what! No one took these promises seriously anyway. So what was Trina’s angle?
“Come on, Trina. Tell me why not,” Pat pushed her textbook aside and waited for an answer.
“Something I learned from Gramps,” Trina finally answered. “He ‘resolved’ life in a much more effective way.” Again she fell silent and Pat leaned forward, hoping that would push Trina to continue. It did.
“Oh, my Gramps made plans alright, but he did it much more subtly than most people, and when he set out to accomplish or change something, he always succeeded.
Resolutions are mostly a joke, but his way of responsible planning isn’t!”
Pat felt the gentle rebuke, but curiosity was stronger than any feeling of insult or put-down. “Do you ‘resolve’ life like he did?”
“I’m learning to. And when I have it mastered, I expect I’ll have as much success as he did!” Trina read the sincere interest in Pat’s face and had also pushed her books aside by now. “How pressing are your studies tonight? Do you have time for this discussion? It may take the next hour and I’ll leave it for another evening if that’s what we need to do. I’ve only got a short section left to read and I can do it in the morning.”
“I have two more days before this paper is due. Let’s talk tonight!” Pat closed her notebook and pulled her pillow off the bed to make sitting on the floor more tolerable.

What is Effective Planning?
“Granddad was a deeply spiritual man, but had no use for most religion. He read the Scriptures a lot and had gained some pretty neat stuff from his reading, things I never heard from anyone else.” Trina got to her feet and started toward their small refrigerator. “Want anything to drink?” Pat nodded. “I’ll finish the
V8 Fusion I started this morning. It was pretty good.”
“I guess you know my grandparents taught all of us to keep
Sabbath,” Trina resumed her story. “Gramps had learned it from the Scriptures and he and Grandma were very faithful. When I asked him about why it mattered so much to them, he would just say, ‘Scriptures say, Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” And usually he would string parts of a couple more verses on after that, this shall be a statute for ever unto you’ ‘throughout your generations in all your dwellings,’ then add, ‘That makes it sound pretty important to me.’” Exodus 20:8; Leviticus 16:29; 23:31.
