Physical Rest—True Restoration: “Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a Sabbath of rest to Yehuveh.”“Keep the Sabbath day to sanctify it, as Yehuveh thy Elohim hath commanded thee. Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the Sabbath of Yehuveh thy Elohim: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou. And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, . . . therefore Yehuveh thy Elohim commanded thee to keep the Sabbath day.” “Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.” Exodus 35:2; Deuteronomy 5:12-15; Exodus 34:21. Given to us at creation and preserved for us through all the apostasy of human detours, Sabbath is still our blessing. It remains our highest privilege to appreciate and enjoy this precious time with Yehuveh. Through the hours of these set-apart days, we are changed. Little by little, instruction by instruction, we learn to value what Yehuveh values, appreciate His awesome goodness and look forward to His rest. Thus, He told Moses, “Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily My Sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am Yehuveh that doth sanctify you. Ye shall keep the Sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you. . . . Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to Yehuveh. . . . Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days Yehuveh made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day He rested, and was refreshed.” Exodus 31:13-17. Yehuveh provided Sabbath-rest for Israel at every level. Trained to our materialistic, mechanical-time thinking, most individuals in this modern society find it nearly impossible to comprehend the potential prosperity inherent in the Sabbath. Taking time for regular days off work, making scheduled time to just spend with Yehuveh carries with it a prosperity mysterious to most of humanity. Yet, with proper rest and restoration, we have the opportunity to be more creative, to work more effectively in less time, to enjoy it more completely, and from all of these changes to prosper greatly. Indeed, in Yehuveh’s rest, we will thrive in ways the rest of humanity, with their 24/7/365 mentality, will never know. Privileges and Opportunities Consider our privileges and opportunities to get to know Yehuveh and rest in Him: Once in seven days there is a Sabbath for refreshment and reconsideration of life: Exodus 20:8-11. See Sevens (Weeks) to understand when Yehuveh schedules each Sabbath. Then every month there are one or two additional New Moon days kept as Sabbaths, providing us all the blessings of the weekly Sabbath on the wider scope of a month: 1 Samuel 20. See Months for determining New Moon days. Then, with the Feast of Seven Sabbaths (Weeks) (Penticost), the Day of Restarting (Atonement), and twice every year with the Spring and Fall Feasts which began and ended on Sabbaths, Yehuveh has provided us Sabbath blessings on the wider scope of yearly cycles. Leviticus 23. Thus Yehuveh’s precious Sabbaths provide us time for both personal growth and to be a blessing to others in whatever form it may take.
