Is Yehoshua to Come Again?
“If I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again, and receive you unto Myself;
that where I am, there ye may be also.”
|y mother loved jig-saw puzzles and some of my cherished memories were times when she and I and another of my sisters would sit around her card table chatting while we searched for tiny pieces of blue to finish the sky or that splash of color that finished the flowerbed beside the grand|
|mansion. Occasionally my uncle would drop by and insist that we needed his help. There was a long-standing competition between he and my mom over who would finish the puzzle—who would get to put in the last piece. One afternoon while he was “helping” we found the last few pieces and when we were ready for the last piece, it was gone. Mom searched the floor, looked again in the box, checked the nearest trash can, but could not find the missing piece. My uncle “helped” in the search until Mom gave up. Then with his typical teasing grin, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the missing piece, saying, “I always put in the last piece.” I think Mom wanted to strangle him!
Puzzles in Scriptures
Often Scriptures provide us with many pieces of information to evaluate and piece together. Depending on how thorough we are in our research, and depending on which pieces we consider to be part of the picture we are working on, the pictures we put together from any given collection of verses can be considerably different. So how do you know what is the true picture? That is a challenging question, but in reality in will always be answered best by the most thorough and prayerful research and the leading of Yehuveh. He alone knows what He is saying to us in His Word, and He invites us: “Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” “Yehuveh is nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth.” We must prayerfully study with an earnest desire to know Yehuveh and His truth. Jeremiah 33:3; Psalms 145:18.
Many “doctrines” have been established on a selected collection of texts. Neatly packaged together, they present a certain picture. Most believers settle their beliefs on such limited Scriptural evidence without personal research. Neat little packages! Nice to handle, nice to pass on. But what if these collections of verses are incomplete? What if they teach only part of what the Scriptures present on a topic? What if there are pieces missing and the picture which is gained by ignoring these additional pieces is utterly incorrect? What then? What confidence and expectations will we be placing in a lie? What choices will we be making on false foundations? What will be our losses?
The Second Coming of Yehoshua (Jesus)
The “doctrine of the second coming of Yehoshua (Jesus)” is widely accepted and many people are building their present lives and future hopes on this belief. But what if the pieces collected to establish this teaching don’t present the whole picture? What if we have selected pieces to a puzzle which give us a picture very different than the scene we would have if the whole puzzle were put together? What if we are living our lives on a partial truth that is therefore really a lie? Scary thought! How will we know? Scripture offers only one measure of truth: “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” We must personally take every piece we have and research it against Yehuveh’s Torah. Then, and only then, will we know if there is truly “light in” what we believe. Isaiah 8:20.
