Natural Remedies

“I am Yehuveh that healeth thee.”
“Is there no balm in Gilead;
is there no physician there?
why then is not the health
of the daughter of My people recovered?”
Exodus 25:26; Jeremiah 8:22.

I
f you ask, “Do the Scriptures teach us to use natural remedies?” more than a dozen stories respond with a resounding “YES!!!” But the real question should be, “Is there true healing in anything other than natural remedies?” If we cannot find healing in Yehuveh’s ways, can we find healing
at all? “Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of My people recovered?” “I am Yehuveh that healeth thee.” “Bless Yehuveh, O my soul, . . . who healeth all thy diseases.” Jeremiah 8:22; Exodus 25:26; Psalms 103:3.

Primary Natural Remedies: Prayer and Prevention

Prayer is always the first step in seeking healing. The Scriptures present dozens of stories of miracle healings and awesome events where life and health are restored in direct response to those who “entreat Yehuveh.” Thus it is not surprising that Yehuveh’s anointed ones are often asked to “Pray now unto Yehuveh our Elohim for us.” Exodus 9:28 [Consider: Genesis 18:23-32; 19:29; 20:7, 17; 32:28; Exodus 9:28-29, 33; 17:11; 32:10-14; Numbers 11:2; 14:13-20; 21:7-9; Deuteronomy 9:18-20; Joshua 10:12; 1 Samuel 12:18; 1 Kings 13:6; 17:18-24; 2 Kings 4:33-35]; Jeremiah 37:3.
        But there are also numerous accounts of
natural remedies being used effectively, in direct relationship with the earnest prayers of both the ill and injured and those who are caring for them. Even Revelation ends with reference to natural remedies: “In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life: . . . and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” This is a field of study calling for our prayerful attention. Revelation 22:2.

Prevention is always better than cure. That goes without saying! Recovery can never bring us back to the health we enjoyed before illness or injury. But things happen in life and we aren’t able to prevent every suffering. Yehuveh knows the sad condition of His people and He offers us a way to live that will preserve health and fitness: “If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of Yehuveh thy Elohim, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am Yehuveh that healeth thee.” Exodus 15:26.
         But illness and injury do come, and, in answer to our prayers, Yehuveh
“will take sickness away from the midst of thee.” Or He will direct us to the relief He has already provided for us in powerful natural remedies. When He sees that healing in this way is best, He teaches us to use them. Exodus 23:25.
