|Section 1: Yehuveh’s Love, Article 8
Who Is Israel?
“Thus saith Yehuveh, Israel is My son,
even My firstborn.”
|hat do you make of Yehuveh bold promise to “the land of Israel, . . . the mountains, . . . the hills, . . . the rivers, and . . . the valleys,” that He “will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it”? First who is Israel; then who are “all . . . of Israel”? Ezekiel 36:6, 10.|
Reading Ezekiel 36:1-11 as a literal and very-soon-to-be-fulfilled prophecy to “the land of Israel, and . . . unto the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys” of this Middle Eastern location, how do you understand the promised restoration Israel, especially of “all the house of Israel,” to their “old estates”?
1. Do you simply dismiss the statement as something impossible to achieve, a prophecy that has
no practical fulfillment and can therefore be applied to the church to some specific nation or land,
such as the United States, or in any other way spiritulized away? This approach makes nonsense
of the passage; it does no justice to Scriptures which are written very literally to a very real land;
it ignors the context which describes a very real return of very real people who “are at hand
to come” and to whom Yehuveh promises He will “settle you after your old estates, and will do
better unto you than at your beginnings” as they till and sow and harvest the “fruit” of this
land. Ezekiel 36:8, 11, 9.
2. Do you seek to understand who “all” this “house of Israel” is based on the meaning of
the new name given Jacob? This is a reasonable appraoch since one of the literal meanings
of the name Israel in Hebrew is “to seize, take hold.” Simply put, Israel describes “those who
persistently continue to stay with Yehuveh.” It would make sense that “all” who stay with
Yehuveh would be delivered and restored to His original plan for mankind. But to believe
every Yehuveh-loving person from any geneological background will inherit that land which was
specifically promised to the descendents of Abraham and Jacob is inconsistent with Scriptures.
3. Do you attempt to find and identify the now-living physical descendents of Jacob by
tracing the migrations of ancient Israel, as some authors have done: Abrahamic Covenant
by E. Raymond Capt and The “Lost” Ten Tribes of Israel . . . Found by Steven Collins? This
solution raises two significant problems. First, not all the blood-line descended of Jacob are now
choosing to “confirm the covenant” with Yehuveh during this final seven years, and therefore
they will not be among His restored people. Locating them is not the only key. Secondly, how
could you fit all these millions of descendents into that small piece of real estate? Daniel 9:27.
4. Do you resolve the matter by combining aspects of the insights in options 2 and 3 above?
Do you come to see that “all” this “house of Israel” are only those descendents of Jacob
described by Isaiah 10:21 as “The remnant” which alone “shall return, even the remnant
of Jacob, unto the mighty Elohim,” that is, those descendents of Jacob who have willingly
and joyfully returned [Isaiah 35:10; 51:11] to all of Yehuveh’s instructions and ways. This
conclusion alone reconciles the promises of Ezekiel 36 with the statement in Isaiah 65:8-9:
“Thus saith Yehuveh, . . . I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an
inheritor of My mountains: and Mine elect shall inherit it, and My servants shall dwell there.”
