Section 1: Yehuveh’s Love, Article 5

Do You Know His Name?

“I appeared unto Abraham,
unto Isaac, and unto Jacob,
by the name of El Shaddai
(the Almighty, the El of strength),
but by
My name Yehuveh was I not known to them.”
Exodus 6:3.

“M
oses said unto Elohim, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The Elohim of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is His name? what shall I say unto them?”
Do we know our Creator’s name? Do we need to know it? Does it make a difference how we address our Maker? Yes, from Scriptures we do know our Creator’s name! Yes, we do need to know it! And yes, it makes a great difference in our lives! Scripture clearly states that it affects our lives. “Because he hath set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, becaue he hath known My name.” “They that know Thy name will put their trust in Thee.” “The name of Yehuveh is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” Psalms 91:14; 9:10; Proverbs 18:10.
At the end of the night of wrestling with a stranger,
“Jacob asked Him, and said, Tell me, I pray Thee, Thy name. And He said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after My name? And He blessed him there.” [This Stranger had to be Yehuveh Himself, for there is no Scriptural evidence that any being except Yehuveh blesses man. “Yehuveh bless thee.” Ruth 2:4. See also: Genesis 39:5; Deuteronomy 12:15; 16:17; 33:23; Psalms 118:26; 129:8; Proverbs 10:22.] It is not stated that this Stranger ever answered Jacob’s question, but it is very clear that Jacob was blessed for asking! Will we not also be blessed for asking? Proverbs 30:4; Genesis 32:29.
Scripture is filled with assurance that Yehuveh, our Creator, will Himself make sure we know His name:
“Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know Mine hand and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yehuveh.” “Thus saith Yehuveh the maker thereof, Yehuveh that formed it, to establish it; Yehuveh is His name.” “Seek Him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: Yehuveh is His name.” “Therefore My people shall know My name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am He that doth speak: behold, it is I.” “And I will sanctify My great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am Yehuveh, saith Yehuveh Elohim, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.” Jeremiah 16:21; 33:2; Amos 5:8; Isaiah 52:6; Ezekiel 36:23.
It is intriguing that throughout the book of
Genesis Abraham built alters to Yehuveh, listened to and obeyed His voice and entered into a solemn covenant with Him, yet in all (save one, Genesis 15:7) of Yehuveh’s addresses to Abraham He introduced Himself as El Shaddai, (Almighty El) not as Yehuveh. “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine,Yehuveh appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am El Shaddai; walk before Me, and be thou perfect.” It must have been by this name that Abraham instructed Isaac, for Isaac used this same name when he blessed Jacob: El Shaddai bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people.” Genesis 17:1; 28:3.
