			ever, never put another book or anything else on top of your Bible,” my mother gently lifted my coat from where I had tossed it across the bed atop my Bible. “It’s Elohim’s holy book and nothing is ever to be placed above it.” She spoke with such emphasis, and, since I was so very young, the
impression went deep. It must be extremely important. I spent the rest of my childhood making sure nothing ever, ever remained on top of any Bible, even if it were not my own Bible! I’m sure I disturbed several teachers and hostesses because I didn’t hesitate to move objects wherever I might be.         Years later I echoed the same intense admonition to a class I was teaching and someone ask, “I’ve heard you cannot even place a Bible upright in a bookshelf. Is that right?” This thought was new to me and had not been one of my Mother’s tenets, and suddenly I was at a loss to answer. My Father was quite a student and he had kept sever versions of the Scriptures on the shelf with his concordances and commentaries. Was that really a sacrilege? As I pondered the question, suddenly my Mother’s early admonition flashed through my mind and for the first time since childhood I dared to question whether  what she had taught me was right! In the uncertainty of the moment I could only state: “You know, I cannot give you a Scriptural answer to your question. I honestly don’t know.” Was there any Scripture to support what had been so important to my Mother? I had to know.          The simple question opened the door to dozens of questions, but at its very core, these are the issues to be confronted: What is the true way in which we are to worship our Maker and Father, according to the Scriptures? Indeed, what is worship? A Dictionary will tell you that as a noun it is “adoration, love, reverence, respect, devotion, adulation, veneration;” and as a verb it means “to adore, to love, to revere, to adulate, to deify, to pray to, to venerate; to treat as deity, to show respect by engaging in acts of prayer and devotion; to take part in religious service; to admire or respect greatly, or to unquestioningly submit to.” Nice list of words! In my practical life, however, what the Scriptures say am I to do to worship Yehuveh is far more important? It must go a great distance beyond merely keeping object off the top of a published book! But to its full extent, what does Scriptures state to be involved in true worship of Yehuveh? Exclusive Worship of Yehuveh         Exodus 34:14-17 starts the discussion: “For thou shalt worship no other elohim (gods): for Yehuveh, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous (exclusive) Elohim: Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their elohim, and do sacrifice unto their elohim, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice; and thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their elohim, and make thy sons go a whoring after their elohim. Thou shalt make thee no molten elohim.” Yehuveh recognizes that only when He has our exclusive “adoration, love, reverence, respect, devotion, adulation, veneration,” can we truly have a relationship with Him. Therefore the very groundwork foundation of His protective wall around us is “Thou shalt have no other elohim before Me.” Why? Scriptures best answers with the question: “Who is like unto Thee, O Yehuveh, among the elohim? who is like Thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?” Exodus 20:3; 15:11. Compare the extensive Scriptural discussion of these simple statements: Deuteronomy 5:7; 6:5, 14; Joshua 24:18-24; 2 Kings 17:29-35; Psalms 29:2; 73:25; 81:9; Isaiah 26:4; 43:10; 44:8; 45:21, 22; 46:9; Jeremiah 25:6; 35:15; Revelation 19:10; 22:9.
