Section 1: Yehuveh’s Love, Article 2

Abundant in Goodness

“O Yehuveh. . . . I had fainted,
unless I had believed to see
the goodness of Yehuveh
in the land of the living.
Wait on Yehuveh: be of good courage,
and He shall strengthen thine heart.”
Psalms 27:11-14.

A
s Kirk caught sight of his young friend, he hardly noticed his dirt-smudged face and tousled hair. All he saw was Doug’s radiant smile. “How can you smile at a time like this?” Kirk was beyond puzzled. Bombs had destroyed much of their village and crops, many of their friends and family members
were injured or dead, and the war still raged about them. As he approached his friend, Kirk could see that Doug had a deep gash on his leg. Still he smiled.
Kirk repeated his question, “How can you be smiling right now?” He knelt beside his friend to examine the cut on his leg, then looked up into his deep blue eyes.
“This will end soon,” Doug responded, “and when it does, I’ll help rebuild Granddad’s house. We still have one cow and Mom’s garden survived. We have each other and a little food. Isn’t Yehuveh good to us!” Kirk was amazed. Doug wasn’t considering the current destruction, only his internal confidence in Yehuveh’s unchanging goodness and continued care. How Kirk longed for such an anchor.

Yehuveh promises, “My people shall be satisfied with My goodness.” Awesome promise! Jeremiah 31:14.

What is “the Goodness of Yehuveh”?
        What is this
“goodness of Yehuveh” which gives us present courage and fulfilling satisfaction? Years before Jeremiah penned these words, Moses had ask Yehuveh, “I beseech Thee, shew me Thy glory,” to which Yehuveh replied, “I will make all My goodness pass before thee.” Yehuveh’s goodness is His glory! Yehuveh is good to all: and His tender mercies are over all His works.” “Yehuveh is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that trust in Him.” His goodness is all that makes Him exalted and wonderful and able to lift us above the destructive earthliness and troubles of this life. Jeremiah 31:12; Exodus 33:18-23; 34:6-7; Psalms 145:9; Nahum 1:7.
